American Violence Is Pushing Families to Think About Leaving

This New York Times opinion article written by Jessica Grose argues that a growing number of American women, especially those who are of childbearing age are considering leaving the United States permanently. These thoughts are driven primarily by fear of violence, specifically gun violence.

Gallup polling shows that women ages 15–44 are twice as likely as the general population to want to emigrate. These trends are not reflected among women the same age in other countries.

Through statistics and personal stories from women, the Grose highlights how the relentlessness of mass shootings, school shootings, and deaths involving law enforcement has created a widespread sense of fear and anxiety in the country.
