Florida officials say Chat GPT may have advised a school shooting gunman

New York Time’s opinion writer Patricia Mazzei  explained that James Uthmeier - Attorney General of Florida - announced a criminal investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT over messages exchanged with Phoenix Ikner before a 2025 shooting at Florida State University. He claims the chatbot may have provided harmful guidance.

OpenAI denies responsibility, saying it only gave public, factual information. The case could set new legal precedent and ties into broader efforts by Ron DeSantis to regulate AI.
